A 3-run win against Peshawar Zalmi meant ensured Multan Sultans the top spot in the PSL 2020 points table. Zalmi will now play the fourth-placed side in the first semi-final, the day match at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on March 17. Here is how the teams stand, and what the teams need to do to qualify.
Team | M | W | L | NR | Pts | NRR |
Multan Sultans | 9 | 6 | 1 | 2 | 14 | +1.307 |
Karachi Kings | 8 | 4 | 3 | 1 | 9 | -0.027 |
Peshawar Zalmi | 10 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 9 | -0.055 |
Lahore Qalandars | 9 | 4 | 5 | 0 | 8 | -0.175 |
Islamabad United | 9 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 7 | +0.259 |
Quetta Gladiators | 9 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 7 | -1.052 |
Multan Sultans: As discussed, they will top the group irrespective of the outcome of their last match, against Lahore Qalandars.
Karachi Kings: With two matches in hand, against Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, the Kings are placed better than any other side to finish second. One win will guarantee them that.
Peshawar Zalmi: They have played all 10 matches. They would want the Sultans to beat the Qalandars. If that does not happen, they would have to hope the Kings lose both matches badly or United lose their only match.
Lahore Qalandars: A win against the Sultans will see them through. If they lose, Karachi will have to win both their matches.
Islamabad United: They may be fifth at this point, but their excellent run rate will help them qualify if they beat the Kings.
Quetta Gladiators: They have to beat the Kings, who have to beat United; and the Sultan have to beat the Qalandar.
