The idyllic, picturesque Seddon Park in Hamilton, one of the spectator-friendliest venues in the world, will host the first ODI between New Zealand and India. The ground dates back to well over a century ago, and hosts cricket, rugby, and hockey. In cricket, it acts as the home ground for the Northern Districts Cricket Association.
The venue is named after Richard Seddon, New Zealand’s longest-serving Prime Minister, and was temporarily named after Trust Bank and Westpac, who had stepped in as sponsors. The ground has about 10,000 seats.
A total of 26 Tests, 34 ODIs, and 10 T20Is have been played here. It was here that Rahul Dravid scored 190 and 103* in the same Test; Chris Cairns claimed 7/27 to bowl out a full-strength West Indies; New Zealand had chased 347 in an ODI after being 41/4 against Australia; and Richard Levi had slammed the (then) fastest T20I hundred, off just 45 balls.
