India have built a substantial lead at the top of the ICC World Test Championship table after their 203-run win over South Africa in the first Test in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, October 6.
The victory gave India 160 points – a full 100 clear of New Zealand at second place – but given the peculiarities of the scoring system, that’ll balance itself out over the course of the next two years. India claimed 40 points for their victory in Vizag, and will need to win the remaining two matches to claim the full 120 points available for the series.
For South Africa, it was their first match of the revamped Test cricket system, and the loss means they are placed at No.6, above seventh-placed West Indies, who have lost both their matches so far. Pakistan and Bangladesh are yet to get on the board.
