The 23 matches of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup will be hosted by six grounds, of which four will host the 20 league matches. In Part 1 of the series, we shall have a look at the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground, Perth, and Manuka Oval, Canberra.
Western Australia Cricket Association Ground, Perth
The WACA Ground is back as Western Australia’s main home ground after a year-long gap for renovation. The famous steep bounce of the hard WACA pitch may be a thing of the past, but the hard, often bone-dry pitch has traditionally aided both fast bowlers and back-foot strokeplayers, while the Fremantle Doctor – the WACA’s famous afternoon breeze – assists swing bowling.
The WACA Ground has not hosted a Women’s T20I till date. The 5 matches to be played here will be the first matches played here:
West Indies vs Thailand, February 22, Group B
New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, February 22, Group A
England vs South Africa, February 23, Group B
Australia vs Sri Lanka, February 24, Group A
India vs Bangladesh, February 24, Group A
Manuka Oval, Canberra
Manuka Oval gets its name after the Maori word for a local flower, and serves as the headquarter of both cricket and AFL teams of Australian Capital Territory. The venue traditionally hosts the match between Australian Prime Minister’s XI and touring sides.
In all, it has hosted 9 Women’s T20Is, the joint most on Australian soil, alongside North Sydney Oval. This World Cup’s 5 matches will help them secure the top spot:
England vs Thailand, February 26, Group B
West Indies vs Pakistan, February 26, Group B
Australia vs Bangladesh, February 27, Group A
South Africa vs Thailand, February 28, Group B
England vs Pakistan, February 28, Group B
