Women's T20 World Cup 2012 Australia

Australia’s dominance slowly dawned on the world as they defended the title against England to keep hold of the trophy. They would, in a few months, win the ODI World Cup as well, and little did we know that was just the start of their trophy haul this decade.

It was again an eight-team tournament, with England, Australia, Pakistan and India pooled in Group A, and West Indies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa fighting it out in Group B.

As it turned out, England had a flawless league campaign, and finished above Australia in Group A to make it to the semi-finals, where they faced New Zealand, who finished second in Group B. Meanwhile, Australia had a seemingly difficult task in their semi-final against the unpredictable West Indies side, who’d finished atop their group on net run-rate.

Both England and Australia had comfortable victories to set up a thrilling final, and it was indeed a thriller in Colombo. Australia posted 142/4, and then England, succumbing to pressure, were kept to 138/9. The four-run victory meant Australia were in delirium.
