Vitality Blast 2019, Sussex vs Glamorgan: Preview, predictions

Vitality Blast

The South Division clash between Sussex Sharks (still undefeated in the tournament) and Glamorgan (still winless) at County Ground, Hove, will be the only match of the 2019 Vitality Blast to be played on August 6. A win may help Sussex go ahead of Kent Spitfires and seal top spot in the South Division points table, while Glamorgan will try to pull off their maiden win.

Sussex’s first match, against Hampshire, was washed out without a ball being bowled. After beating Hampshire in the return match, they tied with Surrey. Then they beat Somerset, Kent – now at the top of the South Division – and Gloucestershire.

Alex Carey’s arrival has boosted the Sussex batting line-up, one that already had a formidable look thanks to the presence of David Wiese, Philip Salt, and Luke Wright. In Tymal Mills and Rashid Khan – one may assume that Jofra Archer will sit out – they have their bowlers as well.

As for Glamorgan, their only points have come from an abandoned match (they were 96/8 when the match were called off) and a tie, both against Gloucestershire. They have lost to Somerset, Surrey, Middlesex, and Hampshire, and have had scores of 96/8, 44, 136, and 87. Their batting has been ordinary, while their bowling has been too dependent on Andrew Salter and Graham Wagg.

Last season: Glamorgan 173/4 (20) lost to Sussex 177/2 (18.4) by 8 wickets at Cardiff, Sussex 186/5 (20) beat Glamorgan 88 (13.3) by 98 runs at Hove

Key players: Alex Carey (Sussex), Andrew Salter (Glamorgan)

Prediction: Sussex to win and rise to top of South Division points table.
