England started their World Cup mission with a comfortable 104-run win against South Africa at The Oval. Four Englishmen – Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, and Joe Root – notched up fifties, as did two South Africans, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen.

Stokes’ 89 was the highest of them all, which put him at the top of the World Cup 2019 runs chart at the end of the first day.
