Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2020 preview

Of all limited-overs cricket tournaments still in place in the subcontinent, the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is among the oldest. However, while this is the 42nd edition of the tournament, matches in only the last six editions have received List A status.

Twenty-time champion (including the last two editions) Abahani Limited will start the tournament as overwhelming favourites, despite having to let go of the likes of Mashrafe Mortaza, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Mithun, Rubel Hossain, and Soumya Sarkar.

Several members of their squad – Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Taijul Islam, Mosaddek Hossain, Aminul Islam, Afif Hossain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mohammad Naim, and Arafat Sunny – are active international cricketers. The squad looks even more impressive in the absence of the usual assortment of overseas cricketers.

In Soumya Sarkar, Mominul Haque, and Mahmudullah, Gazi Group Cricketers (who won in 2015-16) too boast of a solid batting line-up. Nine-time winner Mohammedan Sporting, on the other hand, have one of the strongest bowling attacks in the tournament (Abdur Razzak, Taskin Ahmed, Abu Jayed, Shuvagata Hom, Abu Hider).
