Cricket news round-up – 20 July: No Mortaza, Shakib for Malinga’s farewell series, Perry pushes Australia Women closer to Ashes

Shakib Al Hasan Mashrafe Mortaza Bangladesh

Mashrafe Mortaza had been ruled out of Bangladesh’s 3-ODI series in Sri Lanka, one that will also mark Lasith Malinga’s final international appearance. Sri Lanka have also announced their squad for the series. In other news, Ellyse Perry’s hundred pushed Australia Women closer to retaining The Ashes, while the squads for of the inaugural Euro T20 Slam were announced.

No Mortaza, Shakib, Liton, Saifuddin for Sri Lanka tour

Down with a Grade 1 hamstring injury, Mashrafe Mortaza will not be travelling to Sri Lanka for the 3 ODIs starting July 24. Mohammad Saifuddin has also been ruled out due to persistent back pain. Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das have also opted out citing personal reasons. Tamim Iqbal is touted to lead Bangladesh on the tour.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin suggested Farhad Reza, Taskin Ahmed, and Abu Jayed as probable replacements.

Sri Lanka summon Dickwella, Dananjaya, Sandakan

Sri Lanka have left out Milinda Siriwardana, Jeevan Mendis, Suranga Lakmal, and Jeffrey Vandersay for the upcoming ODIs against Bangladesh at home. Instead, they have summoned, among others, Niroshan Dickwella, Akila Dananjaya, and Lakshan Sandakan.

The squad for the series, which will also be Lasith Malinga’s last, consists of a whopping 22 members:

Australia Women have their hand on the urn

Having whitewashed the ODIs, Australia Women had secured a 6-0 lead in The Women’s Ashes. Requiring just a draw the ongoing Test at Taunton, they finished Day Two on 341/5 after the last two sessions were washed out.

Earlier, Ellyse Perry became the fourth woman to score hundreds in consecutive Women’s Tests. Perry (116) was supported well by Rachel Haynes (87). Laura Marsh (2/68) dismissed both of them just before lunch.

Inaugural Euro T20 Slam teams announced

The squads for the six teams of the inaugural Euro T20 Slam were named in London today. The tournament will run from August 30 to September 22 in Edinburgh, Amsterdam, and Dublin. The squads read:
