Brampton Wolves and Edmonton Royals will take each other on in the Global T20 Canada 2019 on Sunday, July 28, and each team have their own motivations to go for the kill.

Brampton replaced West Indies B in the tournament this year, and they couldn’t have asked for a better start. They thrashed Montreal Tigers by ten wickets, with Ish Sodhi returning an excellent 5/8 to bundle out Montreal for 101. The 102-run target was chased down in just 6.4 overs, with George Munsey going ballistic with a 24-ball 63*.

A repeat of such heroics will be the aim for Brampton, but that’s easier said than done against Edmonton, given they have in their line-up stalwarts like Faf du Plessis, Mohammad Hafeez, Jimmy Neesham and Ben Cutting.

Admittedly, Edmonton suffered a poor start to their campaign, losing to Toronto Nationals by two wickets in a close-run encounter. However, a team filled with such established, experienced names will know to put behind that opening loss and start afresh come Sunday. They finished mid-table last season, and in a short tournament, it’s imperative to put behind losses as soon as they happen.

It should be a fine encounter.

Head to head

This is the very first time these two teams will meet.

Key players

Ish Sodhi (Brampton): Sodhi’s wrist-spin proved too tricky to handle for Montreal, and that five-for will have him primed for the next match. However, against a batting line-up much stronger than Montreal’s, Sodhi will have his work cut out.

Ben Cutting (Edmonton): The Australian all-rounder is not always adequately appreciated for his skills in T20s. In the loss against Toronto, his 24-ball 43* pushed Edmonton into the 190s. His batting is of the game-changing variety, but he also returned 1/21 with the ball, and is more than a part-timer. Brampton will do well to treat him with caution.

Likely XIs
