Australia v Pakistan, 2nd Test, Day 2, Adelaide: Preview, prediction

Marnus Labuschagne England Australia Ashes 2019 Headingley

Australia are on way to a mountain of runs as they raced to 302 in 73 overs in a rain-curtailed day. To add to Pakistan’s worry, they have lost only one wicket and both their unbeaten batsmen are currently batting on hundred-plus scores.

The unbeaten 294 runs partnership between David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne is already a record in day/night Test matches and they are expected to add much more tomorrow. The Pakistanis looked dejected today by the end of the third session and no wonder the duo would love to play with their minds even tomorrow.

The day started much better for Pakistan when Shaheen Shah Afridi scalped Joe Burns in the fourth over. But that was it. Unfortunately, that was the only time that Pakistan had a taste of success on day 1 at Adelaide. Two of their key bowlers Mohammad Musha and Yasir Shah went for more than five runs per over. Even a sizable rain break did not have any impact on the Australian run flow.

The match will start 30 minutes early tomorrow and Pakistan need to break this partnership early to have any chance in this match. For Australia, there is absolutely nothing to worry about at this point as Warner and Labuschagne will be followed by Steve Smith soon.

Key players

Marnus Labuschagne (Australia) – Marnus Labuschagne is in the middle of a brilliant purple patch. His last completed innings was 185 and the way he is batting in Adelaide he can bring his maiden Test double hundred easily.

Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan) – Shaheed Shah Afridi picked up the only Australian wicket that fell today. He is also having the best economy rate among his teammates. Pakistan need him to fire again tomorrow and scalp few early wickets to stop the rampage.

Prediction

Australia to declare with a huge total on board.
