Ashes 2019 1st Test venue: Edgbaston

The 2019 Ashes will tee off at Edgbaston, home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, on July 1. England had beaten India in a hard-fought Test last year here, by 31 runs. Their win in the last Ashes Test here, however, back in 2015, was a much more comfortable one: James Anderson and Steven Finn took six-wicket hauls each to rout Australia, while Ian Bell got twin fifties.

Over years, Edgbaston has been England’s happiest hunting ground. Since the 2001 Ashes, they have lost here only once, against South Africa in 2008. They have won 6 of their last 7 Tests here, while only two days of play was possible in the other.

Runs have come at breakneck pace in Ashes contests at Edgbaston, at almost four an over. England, who have scored at just over 3.5 here since 2001, have raised their scoring rate at Edgbaston against Australia.
