2022 T20 World Cup – Top 5 Knocks

2022 T20 World Cup – Top 5 Knocks

The 2022 T20 World Cup was a roaring success. Although the rain played spoilsport on a few occasions, the tournament delivered some high drama with plenty of upsets, last-over finishes and spectacular innings. Batters didn’t always have it easy in Australia at the World Cup with the pace and bounce in the pitches, but there were plenty of outrageous innings played in the tournament from the likes of Jos Buttler, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav.

Here are our top five knocks of the 2022 T20 World Cup.

5. Suryakumar Yadav – 61* off 25 vs Zimbabwe (MCG)

Suryakumar Yadav was the standout batter of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, and the Indian superstar played one of the most extraordinary knocks of the tournament against Zimbabwe at the MCG. Yadav displayed the full range of his jaw-dropping stroke-play, smashing six fours and four sixes in just 25 deliveries and continuously peppering the fine-leg region behind square with his ingenious scoop shots.

4. Ben Stokes – 51* off 49 vs Pakistan (MCG)

There were plenty of other more spectacular innings at this T20 World Cup, but arguably none were as important as Ben Stokes’ nerveless half-century against Pakistan in the final in Melbourne. Stokes came into bat with England in a tricky situation in the powerplay against a world-class Pakistani bowling attack. The all-rounder weathered the storm and soaked up all the pressure before taking his side to their second T20 World Cup title with his maiden T20I half-century.

3. Alex Hales – 86* off 47 vs India (Adelaide Oval)

Alex Hales blew India away in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup at Adelaide as he blasted his way to an unbeaten 86 off just 47 in the run chase. Hales smashed seven sixes and four fours in his spectacular knock, tearing into every single Indian bowler on the night. The opener shared a T20 World Cup record 170-run partnership with Jos Buttler to take England home with ten wickets and 24 balls to spare.

2. Glenn Phillips – 104 off 64 vs Sri Lanka (SCG)

Glenn Phillips announced his arrival on the global stage at the 2022 T20 World Cup with his phenomenal century against Sri Lanka at the SCG. While the rest of the Kiwi batters finished with a top score of 22, Phillips blasted his way to a magnificent century on a tricky surface against two world-class spinners. The number four took his time to adjust to the pitch initially – managing just 37 runs off his first 31 deliveries – before exploding at the death to take the Blackcaps to a formidable total of 167.

1. Virat Kohli – 82* off 53 vs Pakistan (MCG)

At number one, it has to be Virat Kohli’s unbelievable innings against Pakistan in India’s opening World Cup encounter at the MCG. Kohli single-handedly rescued India from the brink of defeat against their arch-rivals. The number three took on Pakistani pacers Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf in sensational fashion, helping India score 48 runs off the final three overs and secure one of the most famous T20I wins in their history.
