West Indies vs India 2019 1st Test venue: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium North Sound Antigua

Located halfway between St John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, and its airport, Sir Vivian Richards Stadium replaced Antigua Recreation Ground as the island’s premier venue just ahead of the 2007 World Cup. This is where India, the only touring side to have won a Test here, will face West Indies for the first Test of the series.

While the ground provides with more facilities, the location has prevented massive turnovers in the seven Tests that have been played here. To add to that, the typically slow outfield has hampered quick run-scoring. In fact, so sandy was the bowler’s run-up that the 2009 Test against England had to be called off after 10 balls – the shortest in history.

India have been the only visiting team to have won here, in their only attempt, in 2016 – that too by an innings. West Indies have won 3 (against New Zealand, Bangladesh, and England) of the others and drawn 3.

Here are the records on the ground.
