Despite the high-scoring nature of IPL 2022, there were plenty of fantastic bowling performances throughout the course of the nine weeks, and here are our top five spells of season 15.

5. Mohammed Shami (Gujarat Titans) – 3 for 25 vs LSG

Mohammed Shami gave the Gujarat Titans the perfect start to the season in the IPL as the seamer ran through the Lucknow top order with the new ball in their first outing. Shami dismissed KL Rahul with a peach of the very first ball of the match before accounting for Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey in the powerplay, helping Gujarat limit the Super Giants to 158 in the first innings and win their maiden IPL match by five wickets.

4. Wanindu Hasaranga (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – 5 for 18 vs SRH

Wanindu Hasaranga finished the season as the second-highest wicket-taker behind Yuzvendra Chahal, and the leg-spinner registered his career-best figures of five for 18 against SRH at the Wankhede Stadium. The Sri Lankan bamboozled the dangerous Hyderabad middle-order with his googlies and variations, helping RCB dismiss the Sunrisers for just 125 to complete a commanding 67-run victory.

3. Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – 5 for 25 vs GT

Umran Malik became the first person to win the player of the match award despite being on the losing side in IPL 2022 folliwng his awe-inspiring spell of fast bowling against the Gujarat Titans. In a game that saw nearly 400 runs scored, Malik conceded just 25 runs in his four overs while also picking up all five wickets for SRH. The speedster troubled excellent batters such as David Miller, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya with his searing pace, rattling the stumps for four of his five wickets.

2. Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians) – 5 for 10 vs KKR

Jasprit Bumrah didn’t have the best of seasons in IPL 2022 with the Mumbai Indians, but the pacer produced a special performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the DY Patil Stadium. Bumrah registered the fifth-best figures in IPL history, picking up five wickets for just ten runs and troubling the KKR batters with his laser-sharp short deliveries. After conceding nine runs in his first two overs, Bumrah was magnificent at the death, bowling a triple wicket maiden in the 18th over before conceding just a single run in the final over of the innings.

1. Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals) – 5 for 40 vs KKR

Yuzvendra Chahal was the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2022, finishing with 27 scalps in 17 games, and his most impressive performance for the Royals came against Kolkata at the Brabourne Stadium. Chahal picked up his first IPL career five-wicket haul and hat-trick as he derailed the Knight Riders’ run chase. The leg-spinner started his exploits by dismissing Nitish Rana for 18 before picking up four wickets – including Shreyas Iyer on 85 – in the 17th over to take the Royals to a narrow seven-run win.
