Indian Premier League 2015: Teams, summary, winner, most runs and wickets

Rohit Sharma Mumbai Indians IPL 2012 2015

Mumbai Indians started the tournament dismally, losing their first 4 matches (and 5 out of the first 6). Aaron Finch and Corey Anderson were ruled out of the tournament. But they eventually found new heroes, in Lendl Simmons and Mitchell McClenaghan.

Simmons finished with 540 runs, just behind David Warner’s tally of 562; Lasith Malinga’s 24 wickets were next to only Bravo’s 26; Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard both topped the 400-run mark, while McClenaghan and Harbhajan Singh took 18 wickets apiece.

Mumbai won 9 of their last 10 matches (including three against table-toppers Chennai Super Kings) to regain the trophy. Two of these wins came in Qualifier 1 and the final.

Their only defeat during this streak came when Kohli and AB de Villiers added an unbroken 215 for the second wicket – then a world record stand for any wicket – off just 101 balls.

BCCI also launched Fan Parks – stadiums with giant screens that telecast the matches live – in 15 cities to provide a ‘venue’ feeling across the country. By 2018 the count had increased to 36.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders did not make it to the Playoffs, but that did not prevent Andre Russell from being named the MVP. Russell struck at 192 for his 326 runs; his 14 wickets were the most for Kolkata; and he held 6 catches and fielded brilliantly.
