Watson, Bravo put Chennai on top

Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Batting first, Delhi got off to a decent start, reaching 120/2 after 15.1 overs. Then they lost 4 for 7 in 12 balls, 3 of them to Dwayne Bravo (3/33). They could manage only 147/6.

Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 51, but his innings took 47 balls. Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant contributed with quick cameos, but they were not enough.

Chennai as good as sealed the match with a rollicking second-wicket stand of 52 in 4 overs between Shane Watson (44 in 26 balls) and Suresh Raina (30 in 16). Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni did the rest, though Delhi took things to the last over.

MCC “clear” Ashwin Mankading

Kings XI Punjab captain R Ashwin’s Mankading of Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler had drawn much criticism. MCC, custodians of the laws of cricket, has now released a statement that there was nothing wrong about the dismissal.

“The crux of the issue is when the non-striker can safely leave his/her ground, and what the bowler can do to effect this form of dismissal without courting controversy,” said the release. “To clarify, it has never been in the Laws that a warning should be given to the non-striker and nor is it against the Spirit of Cricket to run out a non-striker who is seeking to gain an advantage by leaving his/her ground early.”

Malinga available for entire IPL

Sri Lanka Cricket has released Lasith Malinga, the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, to play for Mumbai Indians throughout the tournament. Malinga, who was supposed to lead Galle, will not feature in the Super Provincial One-Day Tournament.

SLC had earlier made participation in the tournament mandatory for all cricketers aspiring for a spot in the World Cup. However, they have now made an exception for Malinga, their limited-overs captain.

Bumrah does not bowl in nets

Jasprit Bumrah returned to the Mumbai Indians nets ahead of their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bengaluru. However, while he participated in the drills, he did not bowl a single ball, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.

England Women clinch series
