No Bumrah in Tests

Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of India’s Test series against South Africa, starting October 2, with a minor stress fracture of the lower back. The injury was spotted on September 24 during a “routine radiological checking”.

Umesh Yadav, Bumrah’s replacement in the squad, will now team up with Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami to form India’s pace attack.

No toss, let alone play, was possible in the final of the T20 Tri-Series at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, forcing Bangladesh and Afghanistan to share the trophy. Zimbabwe were the third team of the tournament.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan was named Player of the Tournament.

Spinners put India Women one-up

India Women beat South Africa Women by 11 runs to take an initial lead in the 5-match series. Batting first at Surat, India Women struggled to reach 130/8 on a slow, low pitch, largely due to Harmanpreet Kaur’s 34-ball 43. Shabnim Ismail (4-0-26-3), Nadike de Klerk (2-0-10-2), and Ayabonga Khaka (4-0-10-0) all thrived.

South Africa Women raced to 25 for no loss in 2 overs before the Indian spinners reduced them to 73/7 before Mignon du Preez (59 in 43) took them to 119. Deepti Sharma, whose figures read 3-3-0-3 at one point, finished with 4-3-8-3, while Shikha Pandey had 4-0-18-2 and Poonam Yadav 4-0-25-2.
