Cricket news round-up – September 17: Munsey’s record ton helps Scotland crush Netherlands

George Munsey Scotland

George Munsey’s pyrokinetics helped Scotland thrash Netherlands in the Ireland Tri-Nation T20I Series; Australia Women crushed West Indies Women to clinch the series; and a member of the India Women side reported that she had been approached to fix matches.

Munsey enters record books

George Munsey slammed the third-fastest hundred in the history of T20Is, against Netherlands at Malahide. After reaching fifty in 27 balls, Munsey took just 14 more to reach three figures, eventually remaining unbeaten for a 56-ball 127. Munsey’s 14 sixes are the second-best in a T20I innings. He took 32 runs in a single over (bowled by Max O’Dowd), the second-most.

Munsey added exactly 200 – the third-highest T20I partnership – for the opening stand with Kyle Coetzer (89 in 50). Scotland finished on 252/3. Netherlands finished on 194/7 in response despite Pieter Seelaar’s 49-ball 96 not out. Alasdair Evans had 4-0-19-2 and Adrian Neill 4-0-33-2.

Australia Women clinch series

Australia Women secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match T20I series with a 9-wicket win against West Indies Women at Kensington Oval.

Bowling firsts, Jess Jonassen (4-0-19-2), Georgia Wareham (4-0-17-1), Megan Schutt (4-0-17-1), and Ashleigh Gardner (3-0-12-1) helped restrict West Indies to 97/9. The only resistance came from Britney Cooper (39 in 33).

Australia Women cruised home in the 15th over thanks to Alyssa Healy’s unbeaten 58 in 43 balls.

Indian cricketer approached by match fixer

An India Women cricketer reported to BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit that she had been approached to fix matches in February. According to a report in The Sportstar, The ACU then filed an FIR against two men, Rakesh Bafna and Jitendra Kothari.

Kothari, masquerading as a sports manager, had contacted the cricketer when she was undergoing a recovery session at the NCA, Bengaluru. She was then introduced to Bafna, who had made the offer.
