Shami, Agarwal make big gains in ICC rankings

Mohammed Shami and Mayank Agarwal both made huge strides in the latest ICC Test rankings after their stellar performances in the first Test against Bangladesh in Indore.

Shami is now 7th in the ICC Test Rankings for Bowlers list, while Agarwal moved up to No.11 in the corresponding batting charts.

Ravindra Jadeja is now the joint-35th in the batting charts, following his half-century in Indore, alongside Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, while Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav moved up one spot each to No.20 and No.22 respectively.

Chris Green signs six-year deal with Thunder – the longest in BBL history

Chris Green has signed a six-year contract extension with Sydney Thunder in what is the longest deal in BBL history.

The all-rounder, 26, is a T20 gun for hire, but has seemingly been rewarded for his loyalty and standing in the Thunder dressing room. “Thunder was the first team that backed me when I was playing grade cricket, so to lock in my future with the club is really exciting,” Green said.

“It’s not often you have security, so for me to get that with a club that I love, I’m really excited and very grateful for this opportunity to continue to represent Thunder into the future.”

Ellyse Perry sidelined by shoulder injury

Ellyse Perry could be out of action for anything between one to three weeks after the Sydnery Sixers all-rounder suffered a low-grade AC injury to her right shoulder.

She is out of the upcoming match with Hobart Hurricanes, and is in line for further assessment at the end of the week.

Perry picked up the injury after a heavy fall during Sixers’ clash against the Melbourne Renegades.

Abu Jayed confident of improved display in Kolkata

Ahead of their first Test with a pink ball, Bangladesh pacer Abu Jayed said he was confident his team’s pace attack could hold its own against India’s despite their seeming lack of pace.

“We need to focus on line and length. Good line and length is the key to thrive in Tests. Bowl at the right line and length creates chances and we had quite a lot of chances [in the opening Test].

“Lang’s [Charl Langeveldt, bowling coach] bowling philosophy is that we should not get too bogged down because of our lack of pace. A lot of Indian pacers are doing really well with not much pace. Follow the line they are bowling at. Don’t worry about the pace, just try to bowl at the right spots.”
