Cricket news round-up – November 15: Shami, Pujara star as India assert dominance

Mohammed Shami India

Mohammed Shami’s three-wicket burst was the highlight of the day as India bundled out Bangladesh for 150 and asserted their authority with the bat. Elsewhere, Test cricket is set to return to Pakistan after a decade, and Jemimah Rodrigues guided India Women’s chase after their bowlers kept West Indies to 59/9.

Shami stars before Pujara blitz

Mohammed Shami was the star in a fine Indian bowling display, returning 3/27 as Bangladesh were bundled out for 150 on the first day of the first Test in Indore.

Then, Mayank Agarwal and an attacking Cheteshwar Pujara helped India the day at 86 for the loss of Rohit Sharma, who was caught behind off Abu Jayed early in the Indian innings.

India were imperious with the ball, with Umesh Yadav once again giving the side the early breakthrough, Ishant Sharma chipping in, R Ashwin breaking nascent partnerships, and Shami kicking the door open.

Later in the day, it was also a rare Pujara innings, in which he was the aggressor – his 43 came off just 62 balls – and it helped India end the day with deficit of just 64.

Pakistan announce return of home Tests with Sri Lanka visit

Sri Lanka will play two Tests in Pakistan in December as the PCB announced the return of Test cricket to the country on Thursday, November 14.

The Tests will be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi, for the first time in a decade – the last Test played there was again between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, before a terrorist attack on the visitors’ team bus led to an international boycott on playing in Pakistan.

“This is a fabulous news for Pakistan cricket and its reputation of being as safe and secure as any other country in the world,” Zakir Khan, the PCB director – international cricket, said. “We are thankful to Sri Lanka Cricket for agreeing to send their team for the longer version of the game, which will contribute significantly in the PCB’s efforts and drive for regular resumption of international cricket, and help in its endeavours of attracting new audiences and younger generation.”

Jemimah among the runs as India Women seal series

India Women were simply head and shoulders above West Indies in the third T20I, their bowlers restricting West Indies to 59/9 before cruising to a seven-wicket win.

The highest scores made by the West Indies players was 11, with both Chedean Nation and Chinelle Henry reaching that figure. Everyone else made single-digit scores, with Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma taking two wickets apiece.

Then, Jemimah Rodrigues made a 51-ball 40* even as three quick wickets fell to help India seal the chase in 16.4 overs.

Rahane moves to Delhi Capitals

Ajinkya Rahane was traded to Delhi Capitals by Rajasthan Royals on the last day of the IPL trading window.

Rahane will join fellow India seniors R Ashwin, traded in from Kings XI Punjab earlier in the window, and Shikhar Dhawan at Delhi.

As part of the trade, Delhi sent Mayank Markande and Rahul Tewatia the other way.
