CPL 2019: Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Match 16: Preview, predictions, likely XIs

CPL Caribbean Premier League

The 16th match of the Caribbean Premier League will see Jamaica Tallawahs take on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Kingston, Jamaica.

After losing their last match against Guyana Amazon Warriors , Jamaica Tallawahs are now ready to face St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at home. This will be, in all probability another one sided match as the last ranked team of the table, Tallawahs will throw challenge to the third team on the table, the Patriots.  Whereas the Patriots won three out seven matches till now, the Tallawahs managed to win just oneout six. Moreover, the Patriots already defeated the Tallawahs once in this edition on September 10. So Jamaica will look for revenge by making the most of the home condition.

Jamaica were expected to put up a good fight against the Warriors in the last match in front of their own supporters. But it was a disaster for them in every department. While Zahir Khan and Oshane Thomas failed with the bowl, Andre Russell did his bit to make a successful comeback. He finished with 2/35 and that was the only good part of Tallawahs bowling. On the other hand, he was deadly with the bat as well and score a 19-ball 40. Jamaica Tallawahs will expect the in-form batsmen Chris Gayle, Glenn Phillips, Chadwick Walton to create an impact in this match. If Russell’s all-round skill gets good support from others, the Tallawahs can expect a good showcase.

The last match of the Patriots was one of the most exciting ones of the season where they almost chased down a massive 217 against Trinbago Knight Riders. As usual Evin Lewin was outstanding with the bat and got supports from Carlos Brathwaite and Fabian Allen. Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell, and Rayad Emrit starred with the ball. Alzarri delivered a special spell to finish with 1/25 in four overs. While everyone in the unit was punished by the Riders, Alzarri was the only bowler who conceded less than seven runs per over. It was the batsmen who saved the match for the Patriots and it was ended in a tie. The bowlers need to gear up a bit and that will be enough for the team to beat Jamaica yet again.

Head to head

In ten encounters so far each side has won five apiece. But in the last five matches played between Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, the Patriots have dominated with three wins.

Key Players

Andre Russell (Jamaica Tallawahs)– The last match was evident why Andre Russell can be a game changer for his team. When all struggle, Russell rose to the occasion with both bat and ball. At first, he ended as the most successful bowler of the squad and then went on to score a valuable 40 when it was much needed. If Jamaica have to win this match, Russell will be the best bet.

Evin Lewis (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots)– The second highest run getter of this season so far, Evin Lewis already has 220 runs with a brilliant strike rate of 183.3. He has been one of the most consistent performers for the Patriots till now in this tournament. Most importantly, he contributes in time of need and the last fixture is an example of the same. Lewis has to take care of the top order to add good amount of score on board.
