CPL 2019: Jamaica Tallawahs vs Barbados Tridents, Match 12: Preview, predictions, likely XIs

Sandeep Lamichhane Caribbean Premier League CPL 2019

Battered and bruised after four defeats and no win, Jamaica Tallawahs are still looking for that elusive first point. They will go flat out in pursuit of those 2 points when they host Barbados Tridents – who have played only twice this season – on Match 12 of CPL 2019 at Sabina Park, Kingston.

While their batting have been more than potent (they already have scores of 241/4 and 226/5), the Tallawahs have been way below par with ball. Emphatic as Chris Gayle, Chadwick Walton, Glenn Phillips, and Andre Russell are, they can do precious little if their bowlers let them down every time.

The Tallawahs bowlers have conceded 191/4, 242/6 (in 18.5 overs), 171/5 (in 16.4), and 267/2. All of them have gone for over 9 an over, and barring Shamar Springer (9.20) and Ramaal Lewis (10.33), everyone has conceded 11 or more.

The Tridents had lost badly to Guyana Amazon Warriors in their first match before Sandeep Lamichhane spun them to a win against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Lamichhane will find support from Ashley Nurse and a motley crew of seamers – Roshon Primus, Hayden Walsh, and Josh Lalor.

With bat, JP Duminy is in good nick, as are Johnson Charles and the exciting wicketkeeper-batsman Leniko Boucher.

Head to head

This has been a close clash, Jamaica having won 6 of the 11 clashes and Barbados 5.

Key players

Chris Gayle (Jamaica Tallawahs): How do you stop this man? With 183 runs in 107 balls, 13 fours, and 15 sixes, Universe Boss has easily been the batsman of the tournament. The Tallawahs will expect another onslaught from him, but for how long can he keep going?

Sandeep Lamichhane (Barbados Tridents): The Patriots were well placed at 97/3 in 12 overs before Lamichhane (4-0-22-3) derailed their chase almost single-handedly. However, it will be interesting to see how he stands up against some of the most ferocious power hitters.

Likely XIs

Jamaica Tallawahs: Chris Gayle (c), Glenn Phillips (wk), Chadwick Walton, Rovman Powell, George Worker, Javelle Glen, Derval Green, Ramaal Lewis, Jerome Taylor, Zahir Khan, Oshane Thomas.

Barbados Tridents: Johnson Charles, Alex Hales, Leniko Boucher (wk), JP Duminy, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder (c), Ashley Nurse, Roshon Primus, Hayden Walsh, Josh Lalor, Sandeep Lamichhane.

Prediction

The Tallawahs to lose their fifth match – thanks to some more ordinary bowling.
